Using VSS Crashes the Information Store Service of Exchange Server 2007 SP1

Problem:

Creating a backup using the Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) on an Exchange Server 2007 SP1-based server causes the Information Store service to crash repeatedly.

Solution:

Install Update Rollup 5 for Exchange 2007 Service Pack 1.
