How to Uninstall BootIt NG

This article will explain how to uninstall BootIt NG from your hard drive. Please note that you may also refer to the BootIt NG User Manual for this information. BootIt NG can be uninstalled directly from itself or it can be uninstalled manually. Both methods are detailed below.

Uninstall using BootIt NG

The uninstall option is only available when using a copy of BootIt NG that has been installed to the hard drive.

1. Boot to BootIt NG from the hard drive on which it is installed (i.e. do not run BootIt NG from removable media such as a CD/DVD, USB flash drive, or floppy diskette).
   
   
2. If you do not have primaries limited, the first step to uninstalling BootIt NG is to make sure that you have no more than four primary partitions per hard drive. Use the Work with Partitions dialog box to delete any extra primary partitions as described in the Working with Partitions section of the BootIt NG User Manual.
   
   
3. On the Utilities menu, click Uninstall.
   
   
4. In the Uninstall dialog box, select the Remove BootIt NG checkbox.
   
   
5. Optional: To also remove all groups and captured operating system files, select the Remove Group/Captured OS Files checkbox.
   
   
6. Click OK.
   
   
7. If asked if you want to use the Windows 7 specific MBR, click Yes if Windows 7 is installed on the drive, otherwise click No.
   

Note: Versions prior to 1.83 will mark active the first primary partition of HD0 when BootIt NG is uninstalled; later versions will leave the currently active partition active. If your system boots the incorrect partition or won’t boot at all, you will need to set the correct partition active. This can be done using FDISK/DISKPART or you can use the BootIt NG boot media to set the correct partition active as described below.

Set the Correct Partition Active Using the BootIt NG Boot Media:

1. After you uninstall BootIt NG (as described above), if your system boots the incorrect partition or won’t boot at all, boot the BootIt NG boot media (CD/DVD, USB flash drive, floppy diskette).
   
   
2. To enter maintenance mode, click Cancel.
   
   
3. Click Partition Work.
   
   
4. Click View MBR.
   
   
5. Select the partition that you want active, then click Set Active. This will normally be the booting partition for the operating system you want to boot.
   
   
6. Use the Move Up or Move Down buttons to reorder the partitions, if necessary.
   
   
7. Click Win7 MBR if you will be booting Windows 7 on the drive. Otherwise, click Std MBR. This will ensure valid MBR boot code exists on the drive.
   
   
8. Click Apply to save the changes and then click Close on the Work with Partitions dialog.

Manually Uninstalling BootIt NG

Using the instructions below, BootIt NG can be manually uninstalled using the BootIt NG boot media.

1. Boot the BootIt NG boot media (CD/DVD, USB flash drive, floppy diskette).
   
   
2. If the Setup dialog is displayed, click Cancel to enter maintenance mode. Otherwise, if the Floppy Boot Menu is displayed, click the Maintenance button.
   
   
3. If you do not have primaries limited, the first step to uninstalling BootIt NG is to make sure that you have no more than four primary partitions per hard drive. Use the Work with Partitions dialog box to delete any extra primary partitions as described in the Working with Partitions section of the BootIt NG User Manual.
   
   
4. Click Partition Work. The booting hard drive (HD0) should be selected by default.
   
   
5. Click Undo EMBR.
   
   
6. Click Yes to confirm removal of the EMBR.
   
   
7. If asked if you want to use the Windows 7 specific MBR, click Yes if Windows 7 is installed on the drive, otherwise click No.
   
   
8. A notice may be displayed. Click Ok.
   
   
9. Once back at the Work with Partitions dialog, click View MBR.
   
   
10. Select the partition that you want active, then click Set Active. This will normally be the booting partition for the operating system you want to boot.
    
    
11. Use the Move Up or Move Down buttons to reorder the partitions, if necessary.
    
    
12. Click Apply to save the changes.
    
    
13. If you wish, you can now select the BOOTIT EMBR partition and click the Delete button to remove the partition from the drive.
    
    
14. On systems with multiple hard drives, select each drive and undo the EMBR.
    
    
15. When finished, remove the BootIt NG boot media and reboot the computer.
