How to Add an OS to a Multi-OS Partition

For information on how to activate the Multi-OS feature, please refer to the article titled How to Activate Multi-OS.

These steps will guide you through adding an OS to an existing Multi-OS partition. This article assumes that you have already activated the partition as Multi-OS by checking the Multi-OS check box in the properties of the primary partition, and that you understand how to access the other features of BootIt BM. You should also have your OS installation media.

1. Boot with one of your existing boot items that has the same boot partition as the one to which you are going to add this OS installation.
   
   
2. Change the BIOS setup boot sequence to boot from whichever device you're going to use to start the installation; such as the A: drive or CD-ROM drive.
   
   
3. Insert your OS installation diskette or CD-ROM and reboot the computer. The OS setup program begins...
   
   
4. You can now install the operating system to the partition by following the instructions included with it.

Notes:

• You should be sure to choose the custom installation method so you can control where the installation will go.
  
  
• Never allow the installation to create a new partition or format the existing one (this is for installation to an existing Multi-OS partition).
  
  
• Always install the new operating system to its own directory.
  
  
• If you are installing DOS to a swapped hard drive partition, remember that the swapping only happens when that partition is the boot partition. If you have booted directly from the diskette, then the  hard drives won't be swapped and you'll need to SYS a different drive as well as need to make sure you get the files to the correct partition/drive letter.
  
  
• During the installation the system may reboot several times. As BootIt BM detects changes to the files in the group, you should update the file(s) then select the BootIt BM created boot item to continue with installation.
  

The installation is complete.
