Error Message “While initializing device NDIS: Windows protection error” when Installing Windows 95/98
Problem:
When installing Windows 95 or Windows 98 on a system that has a CPU rated at 2.2 GHz or higher, you receive the following error message:
While initializing device NDIS: Windows protection error
Cause:
This issue is caused by a timing problem in the Windows Network Driver Interface Specification (NDIS) driver. The problem does not occur on systems with a CPU rated at 2.1 GHz or lower.
Solution:
An updated driver is available from Microsoft, but cannot be downloaded directly. You must contact Microsoft Support for a resolution. Please refer to the following Microsoft Help and Support article for more information:
