“Delayed Write Failed” Error Saving to USB Drive
Problem:
Windows reports a Delayed Write Failed error message when using Image for Windows to save to a USB drive.
Cause:
In addition to the standard causes (controller issues, bad or incorrect cables, incorrect BIOS settings, device issues, etc.), this problem can also be caused by a third-party disk imaging program's snapshot driver (e.g. pssnap.sys) conflicting with TeraByte's PHYLock driver.
Solution:
If another imaging program is installed or was previously installed, try uninstalling it and see if it helps. Occasionally, the snapshot driver will remain installed (or partially installed) even after uninstalling the imaging program. In these cases, it may be necessary to manually uninstall the snapshot driver (please refer to the appropriate developer's support for the necessary steps involved). Many of these drivers are installed to the UpperFilters value located at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet \Control\Class\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}. Note: It is not recommended to make changes to the UpperFilters value unless instructed to do so by support. Incorrect changes can cause serious problems, including rendering the system unable to start Windows.
Troubleshooting methods for standard causes for this problem can be found in this Microsoft KB article.
