BootIt UEFI won’t Boot after Installing on Acer Computer

Problem:

After installing BootIt UEFI on the computer the BIOS does not show a BootIt UEFI boot item and continues to boot directly into Windows. This issue is known to affect multiple Acer systems using the InsydeH2O BIOS.

Cause:

Secure Boot is enabled and the BootIt UEFI booting file is not set as trusted in the BIOS.

Solution:

Enter the computer's BIOS and either disable Secure Boot or trust the BootIt UEFI booting file. Checking if a BIOS update is available is also recommended.

Instructions:

  1. Boot the computer into the BIOS. This is usually done by pressing a key on startup (e.g. F2) or by using the Windows 10 Advanced startup options, which can be accessed in Settings (Update & Security | Recovery) or by holding Shift when clicking Restart in the Start Menu.

  2. Go to the Security page. The Secure Boot Mode status should show Standard if defaults are being used.

  3. Highlight the Set Supervisor Password option and press Enter.

  4. Enter a password. Keep in mind this password will be required to make BIOS changes -- use something you'll remember.

  5. At this point, if you wish to disable Secure Boot you can go to the Boot page and make the change and then skip to Step 9.

  6. Highlight the Select an UEFI file as trusted option and press Enter.

  7. On the screen that appears, you need to browse to and select the BootIt UEFI file. Select the drive BootIt UEFI was installed to (e.g. HDD0). Then select the EFI folder. Then select the BootIt folder. Finally, select the bootx64.efi file. A new box will be displayed asking for the boot description of the file. Type in BootIt UEFI and then choose Yes to save it.

  8. You should return to the Security page and the Secure Boot Mode status should now show Custom.

  9. Go to the Exit page and select the appropriate option to save the changes (there may also be a key for this, such as F10).

  10. The computer will restart and you will need to enter the BIOS again.

  11. Once back in the BIOS, go to the Security page and verify the Secure Boot Mode still shows Custom (assuming file trusted in Step 7).

  12. Go to the Boot page. Secure Boot should still show Enabled (assuming not disabled in Step 5).

  13. The boot items are shown below and you should see the Windows Boot Manager as well as the boot item for BootIt UEFI.

  14. Select BootIt UEFI and then press F6 to move it up in the list until it's the first item (you want it to boot first).

  15. Go to the Exit page and select the appropriate option to save the changes.

  16. The computer should now boot to BootIt UEFI when it restarts.

Note: If the booting file changes (e.g. in a future update), it may be necessary to enter the BIOS and trust the updated file before the BIOS will allow booting it.
