BootIt BM Disc Won’t Boot in SATA CD/DVD Drive

Problem:

The BootIt BM disc fails to boot from a SATA CD/DVD drive.

Cause:

The computer's BIOS does not properly support booting a disc in 1.44MB emulation mode.

Solution:

This problem affects only some systems and only SATA CD/DVD drives attached to a controller in AHCI Mode. The suggestions below offer ways to fix the problem or work around it.

  • Check if there is a newer BIOS version available for the computer. If there is, read the BIOS release notes to see which problems are fixed. In some cases, it may be necessary to contact the manufacturer of the computer/board for this information. Note: Use care when flashing the BIOS. Instructions are usually provided with the update.

  • Temporarily change the SATA controller's mode to IDE Compatible. Make sure to change it back to its original value before trying to boot into the installed OS. Failure to do this may result in the OS crashing on startup.

Caution: Do not do this if the controller's mode is set to RAID as it will break the RAID configuration.

  • If supported by the computer, boot the BootIt BM media from a USB flash drive or USB CD/DVD drive.

  • If the computer has a floppy drive, create a BootIt BM floppy disk and boot from it. A USB floppy drive can be used if supported by the computer and an internal drive isn't available.
